Your Engagement Photoshoot

How to enjoy a relaxed, natural photo session

When you think of engagement photos, do you picture stiff poses, awkward smiles and something that feels more like a formal announcement than you?

Let’s reset that idea — because a modern engagement photoshoot should be relaxed, fun, and actually enjoyable

An engagement shoot is a brilliant way to celebrate one of the biggest milestones of your lives. It’s a pause button before the whirlwind of wedding planning really kicks in. And most importantly, it’s about capturing you as you are, not forcing you into uncomfortable poses.

Why engagement shoots can feel awkward

In many ways, an engagement photoshoot can feel more daunting than your wedding day photography.

On your wedding day, so much is happening that the camera naturally blends into the background. You’re surrounded by people you love, emotions are high, and the day carries you along.

An engagement shoot?
It’s just you, your partner… and me with my camera.

Awkward?
For about five minutes. Then something lovely happens.

How I keep your engagement photos natural and relaxed

The key to a great engagement photoshoot is not overthinking it.

Before we meet, we’ll have a chat so you know exactly what to expect. On the day, I’ll gently guide you with simple, easy instructions like:

  • “Walk over there together”
  • “Wander towards me”
  • “Sit on this bench and have a cuddle”

Nothing stiff. Nothing forced.
Your engagement photos will be loosely posed, but they won’t feel posed at all — because you’ll be relaxed, chatting, laughing and just being yourselves. That’s when the magic happens

The perfect practice run for your wedding day

A relaxed engagement shoot is also a brilliant warm-up for your wedding photography.

You’ll see how I work, realise you don’t need to be “good in front of the camera”, and arrive on your wedding day feeling confident and at ease. Many couples tell me it completely changes how they feel about being photographed — in the best way.

Engagement photos… and beyond

And why stop there?
An engagement photoshoot doesn’t have to be a one-off. Many couples come back to mark:
– An anniversary
– A new arrival
– Or simply because it feels like a good excuse to have some lovely photos together
Life changes quickly — and these moments are always worth celebrating
